What all this is about
The objectives of the project are twofold. On the one hand, it is the aim to improve reading skills and encourage young people to read. On the other hand, the project addresses the current topic of migration and integration and aims at promoting understanding and tolerance. Pupils will learn and practise in joint workshops that deal with podcasting, making videos, creating and maintaining a website and using further ICT tools that ensure an enjoyable approach to learning.
Insights gained from literature will also be compared with real-life experience. The schools involved have to cope with migration and integration in different ways. Those experiences will also be shared. Moreover, during project meetings, the participation of pupils with migrational background should be ensured whenever this is possible. All results produced during the project term will be published on this joint website and linked to school websites, so the project can achieve a greater impact, regarding the promotion of tolerance and understanding. The project will be carried out mainly with 12-14-year-old pupils. This seems a suitable age to, firstly, initiate the reading experience; secondly, to raise awareness of problems in society and promote open-mindedness.
restrictions due to covid-19 pandemic
Note:
Unfortunately, the Coronavirus Pandemic did not leave the course of the program unaffected, either due to travel restrictions or due to the change in the way of teaching, which was done remotely. Covid-19 caused interruption of the school year and remote learning resulted to lack of motivation for students. Moreover, after the project was extended, a lot of students participating in the project had already graduated in June 2020 and started education in secondary schools. For this reason, it was extremely difficult to keep in touch with them and continue with the projects final activities.
